Microsoft’s long-awaited next-generation console, Xbox Series X , is about to hit the market. The platform renews the eternal challenge between the American company and Sony, given the launch of the PlayStation 5 , but it will have to do without one of its flagship titles: the developer 343 Industries has in fact announced that Halo Infinite will not arrive before 2021. Xbox Series X will debut alongside “its little sister”, Xbox Series S, known until recently by the codename Lockhart.
Series X enters the scene at a very different time from that in which its predecessor, Xbox One X, was the protagonist. While technically competing with other home consoles, threats come from all sides: gamers are entertained much more with mobile games than before, for example, and the nascent cloud gaming options are not to be underestimated (as is the ‘immortal PC).
Now you have a clearer picture of what you can expect from Microsoft’s new platform, including technical specifications, pricing, and release date.

Price and release ( ↑ )
Microsoft has finally announced the release date of Xbox Series X. The platform will be available from November 10, 2020 , with active bookings from September 22 (at authorized resellers). From the same day, the Xbox Series S will also be put on the market. It is not surprising that November has been chosen as the month of launch: on the other hand, it is the period before the Christmas holidays, the highlight for purchases. Additionally, the November 10 debut date allows the platform to coincide with the release of some highly anticipated triple-A games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
As for the price, Xbox Series X will be available in Italy at 499.99 euros ; Series S, on the other hand, can be purchased for 299.99 euros. In the United States and other countries (but not Italy, unfortunately), players will also be able to buy the platform in installments with the Xbox All Access program, which allows you to pay $ 24.99 for 24 months and includes an Xbox Game subscription. The initial line-up ( ↑ )
Here are the Xbox One X games that will be available at the launch of the console: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Gears Tactics (previously a PC exclusive), The Falconeer, Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Tetris Effect: Connected. Additionally, Destiny 2’s next big expansion, Beyond Light, will arrive on November 10 and will be included in Xbox Game Pass. Gamers will be able to count on Xbox Series X and S optimized versions (although not all of them necessarily on console Day One) of Dirt 5, Watch Dogs: Legion, Fortnite, NBA 2K21, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Control, Doom Eternal and Marvel’s Avengers. In the days following the launch of the console, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Cyberpunk 2077 will arrive.
It should also be emphasized that the platform embraces backwards compatibility – this means that all previous generations of games will be available. So users can safely play Xbox One titles on Xbox Series X (Microsoft has also confirmed that all peripherals for the current console can be used on Series X).

What’s the difference between Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S? Why does one cost more than the other?
Xbox Series S will have a few specs less than its top-of-the-range Series X version but, at the same time, will be available at a lower price. First of all it must be specified that the optical reader disappears , so the games can only be purchased digitally. The design changes completely, focusing on white, and proposes smaller dimensions than “its big sister”. The main differences between the two consoles are the Navi 52 CUs graphics card at 1825 GHz for Series X versus 20 CUs at 1550 GHz for Series S (with a difference of 12.15 TFLOPs and 4 TFLOPs respectively) and RAM (16 GDDR6 vs 10 GDDR6). Xbox Series S also stops at 1440p and 120 fps, while Xbox Series X hits 4K at 120 fps.
